Cobra warriors, surgically implanted with an arsenal of covert weaponry, are the most dangerous guerilla fighters humanity has ever produced. For Jin Moreau Broom, the war is the culmination of a lifetime of Cobra service. But it is also the height of danger for herself and her family as they struggle to survive a war that none of them ever expected to see.
The Troft invasions of Qasama and the Cobra Worlds has had at least one result it has turned long-time antagonists into uneasy and unwilling allies. As the aliens battle to consolidate their conquered territories, a small group of Cobras and Qasaman Djinn work together to create a victory that will rock the invaders to the core, a victory designed to bring other Troft demesnes into the conflict on the humans' side. Now one young Cobra must forge a new political order as a devastating alien enemy strikes—an enemy more deadly than any humanity has ever faced.

Cobra Gamble Cobra War Book III eBook Timothy Zahn

This is the third and presumably final book of his "Cobra War" trilogy, taking place a generation after his original Cobra Trilogy. Some of the Troft demesnes invaded Qasama at the beginning of the new trilogy, and they asked for help from the Moreau Cobra family, which sent two of its members to Qasama - shortly before the Troft also invaded Aventine, the chief planet of the Cobra Worlds. And later, they also invaded Caelian, another Cobra World, but one whose native ecology is extremely hostile to humans. Now some of the Moreaus are back on Qasama and others are on Caelian, fighting the Troft and trying to get along with the Qasamans, which isn't necessarily easy. At the end the Troft demesnes involved in the invasions have been repelled, but there are still questions - some Troft demesnes that hadn't been involved in the invasion seem to be wanting to involve themselves in the peace, and three battleships from the Dominion of Man, which was cut off from the Cobra Worlds a century or more earlier, turn up at Aventine and their intentions are far from clear. Good military SF and well-written, like all of Zahn's work I've read.

Cobra Gamble Cobra War Book III eBook Timothy Zahn Reviews

I enjoy all Timothy Zahn books and have read all is books except for is Star War's books. I look forward to any additional book he will write in the future.
Sorry, no spoilers here. Just know that I have enjoyed all of Timothy Zahn's works and he continues to provide entertaining reading with the exciting conclusion(?) of the Cobra War series and sets up for Zahn's next series, Cobra Rebellion, with his book Cobra Slave.
This universe with Cobra's, Trofts & Quasamans' competing for supremacy is a fascinating presentation of human nature & planetary politics. Well developed characters; different planets; personal quests & interests -- a very good story told by a master storyteller -- bring on the finish!!!!
Continuation of the Cobra series and I have now read all of the books available. Am eagerly waiting for the next book Timothy Zahn puts out in the Cobra Rebellion series. These books are an easy read and are enjoyable even though they are not as 'adult' as Timothy Zahn's Thrawn series in the Star Wars books.
I have been enjoying Timothy Zahn's books for years. I especially enjoy the Cobra books of which there are several series. Highly recommend for all Science Fiction Fantasy lovers. Books are well written, exciting, and CLEAN == no gratitutious sex, no bad language. My grandchildren will be welcome to borrow these when they become old enough to read them.
When Timothy Zahn wrote his first cobra story thirty years ago, I doubt he realized that he would write so many stories about the Cobra Universe. Cobra Gamble is an exciting finish to the Cobra War Trilogy. Zahn keeps the story moving, by switching back and forth to different scenes that are going on in the course of the story, something he has done very well in his Star Wars novels. This story is a wild ride and well worth the trip.
BLUF. These are books that if I lose, I will buy again. If I could pre-order the next book now, I would. Great books overall, except for Cobra Bargin (hastily written to fill in the story line between Cobra Strike and Cobra Bargin?). If you enjoyed Cobra and Cobra Strike you will enjoy these. There are a lot of characters to keep track of but it is an enjoyable read.

SPOILER ALERT, do not read on if you don't want some key end points to be ruined

With so many characters, it is easy to get mixed up as far as who is whom and where they are. It is so easy, the author often gets facts mixed up also (I say often but it was only blatantly wrong in three places). When did Jin get her thermal upgrade (she didn't have it in CW Book I)? If they can't change the programing of the Nanocomputers, how did they incorporate the thermal imaging? When did Johnny Moreau have a child that was left behind when the corridor closed (this goes back to the original Cobra books)? Even with their own Cobras, the Qasamans still need original Cobras to do all the work?

Also, Mr. Zahn. Make sure your future contracts have right of refusal for the cover art. The Cobra Trilogy cover art was really REALLY cheesy. When did the Troft get Uzis? It makes the book look like 2nd rate SciFi, which it is not.
